Student Council Events & News:
Nominations for next year's officers (2015-16) for your Student Council will take place this Thursday at 2:40 in room 100. If you are interested in nominating yourself or someone else, please come to room 100 after school this Thursday. Officer positions include President, Vice-President, historian, secretary, treasurer, and school board representative. For specific requirements for these positions, please see Mr. Cowles. Student Council is intended to be representative of the school and needs students interested in making a positive difference to fill these positions for next year. Elections for regular members will be in early September. There will be five regular member spots available for each grade. Please see Mr. Cowles with questions and consider running in elections this coming September as an elected member of your class.
Community Movie Night
On April 10, Student Council sponsored a movie night in the high school gym. Elementary age children were invited for a half hour of crafts followed by a showing of "A Bugs Life." Our next community movie night will be held in the fall around Halloween.
Student Council is sponsoring our annual Earth Day clean-up on Friday, 4/24. Students need to sign up for a spot with Mr. Cowles and return a field trip permission form by 4/23, this Thursday. Students will clean up one of five locations around FHS with a chaperone.
Elections were held in advisories on 9/12. A total of five members from each class were elected by the student body. The mission of Student Council includes community service, service projects and bringing the staff and students of FHS together for worthwhile & fun activities. Not all classes had five members get elected. Remaining seats will be filled soon.
Peabody Home visit
In an effort to continue our mission of being active in the community, student council members volunteered at the Peabody home on September 29 to volunteer. Students visited with the residents and helped where needed. Another volunteer date will be coming in January.
Homecoming week was Oct. 6-11. The parade, bonfire and dance all were successful events. Classes also did a great job getting donations for the Tornado dollars that wil be given out at the senior banquet in May. Please remember that all students have to pay their class dues up until last school year to attend school dances.
Community pumpkin event
On October 17 from 4:30 to 6 pin the gym, Student Council sponsored a community pumpkin event. There wsd face painting, snacks and pumpkin carving. Many childres and their parents attended. A movie for middle school students was shown at 6pm. (Hocus Pocus)
O'Dell in the dark night
Students volunteered at the O'Dell in the dark community event on October 25 from 4-9 pm.
Five Days of Charity
The Five Days of Charity was an event where clothing, shoes, canned foods, etc.. were collected and donated to a local charity.
Secret Santa was an event where Student Council members choose a staff member that filled out a survey on personal preferences to do a gift exchange with.
Polar Express night
We sponsored a movie night for elementary students showing the Polar Express. Cookies and hot chocolate were served.
Winter Carnival was a success this year and was enjoyed by all the participating students and the faculty. It concluded with a dance and coronation ceremony of the Winter Carnival week. The seniors won Winter Carnival and Chelse Proulx and Alex Hildreth were crowned the Queen and King.
